Meet John

Crafting Is Our Family Language

My name is John, and I was born and raised in Southeast Virginia, where my lifelong love for wood began. I made my very first piece—a rustic cherry end table—for my mother, and since then, my passion for woodworking has only grown. With 28 years of experience as a licensed contractor, I pour my heart into crafting furniture, cabinetry, and built-ins.

I founded JP Senior Wood Works to fulfill two dreams: to run a custom woodshop with my family and to pass on the skills and satisfaction of a job well done to my children. There's nothing more rewarding than sharing my craft with my family, teaching them not only how to make a living but also how to appreciate the art of quality workmanship.

JP Senior Wood Works is family-owned and operated—dedicated to creative craftsmanship, heirloom quality, and a personal touch on every commission we accept in communities such as Del Ray, Old Town Alexandria, Great Falls, Midlothian, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach.

Every commission is touched by members of the Senior family, ensuring heirloom quality and trust.

Our Mission

Restoring Made-In-America Craftsmanship

There was a time when woodworking meant heirloom pieces that lasted generations. JP Senior Wood Works exists to keep that promise alive. We source solid domestic hardwoods, finish by hand, and teach the next generation of craftspeople so custom furniture never becomes a lost art. Quality, creativity, and family pride guide every board we plane and every cabinet we build.

Made In Virginia

Rooted In Local Heritage

Virginia once thrived on handcrafted furniture shops. We're committed to honoring that legacy by building every island, built-in, and cabinetry run right here at home. Our collections draw inspiration from the towns and cities that raised us—from rustic farmhouses and historic Alexandria residences to Tidewater cottages and coastal homes in North End, Bay Colony, Cavalier Park, and Princess Anne Hills.

FAQ

Caring For Your Wood Pieces

Quick tips to keep your custom cabinetry and furniture looking brand new long after install day.

×

What type of wood is best for furniture making?

We primarily use solid hardwoods such as walnut, white oak, and cherry for their durability and timeless grain. Softwoods have their place, but we reserve them for accents or lightweight shelving.

×

How do hand-crafted pieces differ from production-made products?

Each JP Senior piece is milled, joined, and finished by craftsmen. That means tighter seams, richer finish depth, and the ability to customize every curve—unlike factory goods where speed outruns detail.

×

How should I maintain and care for my new wood furniture?

Dust weekly with a microfiber cloth, wipe spills immediately, and refresh the finish with a natural oil or wax every 6-12 months. Avoid direct sunlight and use coasters or felt pads to prevent heat and water marks.
